A Beautiful example of a Napoleon III, French, Ebony and Parquetry Secretaire Bookcase by Chaix. The upper section with glazed doors, enclosing adjustable shelves. The secretaire drawer above a pair of cupboard doors is intricately inlaid with coloured woods, with a naturalistic display of flowers within a wreath. It is decorated overall with rosewood and kingwood quarter veneers and crossbanding, decorated with an ormolu plaque, depicting cherubs and mounts. c1860.
