a fine george iii gilt-japanned scarlet secretaire

A fine English George III scarlet gilt-japanned secretaire; all the surfaces superbly decorated with rich gilt chinoiserie on a scarlet red background, the fall-front opening to reveal a similarly decorated writing slide and various pigeon-holes and drawers; above four drawers all decorated and with brass handles. There are many interesting scenes, with peacocks, pagodas, bamboo and charming depictions of panda bears. The drawers internally are lined with pasted down English XIX Century newspapers.
