The masks of the punu from southern Gabon have become one of the most emblematic images of Africa arts since the end of the 19th century. The Okuyi dance, which gave its name to these masks, brought the community together for major events, during funerals, at the birth of twins, and to restore social order after a crisis in the community. This mask has a wealth of detail, whitened with a kaolin patina, which has aged nicely. Height 32.5cm, Width 20cm, Depth 16.5cm, Weight 0.55kg, appox. A Lovely addition to your collection or a stand alone display piece. Free uk postage overseas at cost.
