antique william iv (c 1830) rosewood card table on recessed castors

This is a William IV (c 1830) Rosewood Foldover Card Table in wonderful original condition. This is a superb example of period card table with stunning dark colouration and patina with its traditional swivel and folding top design. The table has all its edges decorated in original rope carving. Right at the front in the centre of the table skirt, there is a beautiful frieze with leaves, a flower and berries.

This quality rosewood card table has a fully functional swivel and hinged lid enclosing a green velvet interiror.The table is supported by a square column terminating in a quatrepartite base with scrolling feet and recessed castors.I can only describe this as a real work of art; a rare piece that seldom comes available due to its rarity and demand for such antique pieces of furniture. Condition report: The card table is about 200 years old and built with traditional methods and material popular in c 1830. There have been hardly any interventions apart from re-polishing this item to its former glory. The top of the table shows a horizontal wood shrinkage and another on the right hand in side, both treated. There is a small buckle of the wood on the left hand in side. The green baize is faded and slightly marked in places and the recess for the cards has not been polished and the blue paper has not been removed together with the original green felt. All of the above are a testimony of the age of this very fine old piece of antique furniture which is full of character.
