A very typical example of these colourful flower-basket brooches made by the long-established firm of Alabaster and Wilson in Birmingham. It is set with a variety of gemstones including green garnets, amethysts, aquamarines, citrines, blue topaz and so on. In spite of the care and attention lavished on the design and manufacture, they are usually in 9ct yellow and white gold only - maybe owing to post-war shortages. It is approximately 2 5/8 inches: 44 mm across.
