This ebonised bentwood chair has curvaceous platform arms, a caned seat and moulded top and tie rails. The outswept back legs are united to the turned front legs by a continuous stretcher.

Stamped 'Made in Austria, J&J Kohn' to the underside, this chair was made in the late 1800s. The Kohn brothers were at the forefront of continental furniture design inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement in Britain, and Josef Hoffman was one of their designers.
