    An impressive and attractive Copeland cherub centre piece, dating from 1872. Its base measures 13ins (33cms) x 7ins ( 18cms) and it is 13ins (33cms) high.

     
    It is fashioned as a cherub sitting atop a sea shell being pushed into water by another little cherub. It is a wonderfully modelled piece, sculpted by O'Hale for Copeland, and is mainly plain white in colour with a thin blue ribbon around the highest cherub, finished with gilt embellishments.
     
    It presents well and looks great although it has been in the wars a bit and carries some restoration work. There are cracks across the base,( although they are stable) and there has been a section broken out of the side of the shell, ( just in front of the standing cherubs left hand and about two inches in size,) which has been restored back in position. Also the undercracks have been disguised from above. That said it is a fairly decent restoration job and doesn't unduly notice and certainly doesn't detract from the appeal of this charming piece.
