This is an antique fitted silver chest. An English, oak and bound iron shipping trunk, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880.
- Fascinating bound example, with superb Victorian storage appeal
- Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout
- Select oak stocks present fine grain interest and rich caramel hues
- Profusely bound with cast iron braces to each corner
- Shallow lid hosts remnants of mid 20th century travel labels
- Opens to reveal a liner tray, removable to extend the storage space
- Lid and tray dressed in a tasteful leather finish
- Engraved name plaque to the front fascia for an F. Eyre
- Inset, brass lined lock — untested, key absent
- Superb drop handles over ornate shaped backplates
- Maker's plaque to the case edge for G. Dimmer of Southsea, Portsmouth
This is a fine antique fitted silver chest, with a generous proportion and superb visual appeal. Ideal for coffee table use between sofas, or alongside armchairs. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home.
