This is an antique storage box. An English, solid walnut fireside bin or occasional seat, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880.  

• Fascinating and substantial, with an appealing military link
• Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
• Solid walnut with 1'' thick stocks presents warm caramel hues
• Superb craftsmanship and displaying fine grain interest

• Lid adorned with an engraved brass plaque  - reads Box for Drum for .45 Gatling Gun
• Dressed to the fascia with a shield shaped, brass lock escutcheon — key absent
• Pair of rope carry handles sit with broad keepers at each side
• Of superb weight at 10.93kg (24.09 lb) - the substantial form offers use as an occasional seat
