1851 -1933 John White was born in Edinburgh, raised in Melbourne, Australia where his parent migrated to in 1856. He returned to Scotland in 1873 and then lived in London before moving South in 1877. He won the Keith prize for design in 1875. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (ROI) from 1877. John White exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, The Fine Art Society and The Royal Society of British Artists, amongst others. He painted in oil and watercolours. He retired in 1931 and lived in Beer, Devon.
