Circa 1880, Chinese fruitwood altar table, with a long narrow top with inserted centre section framed with mitred corners in similar wood. The top retains some old splits which have been reinforced from underneath. Beneath the top, the reinforcement stretchers can be seen where the mortices protrude to the front fore edge. The underside of the table is in the classic Chinese taste. There are large quarter brackets on the outside with open and carved fretwork on both sides. There are also quarter brackets at the top of legs with a shaped edge. Beneath the top is a simple apron which is rounded and moulded with fretwork galleries at both ends framed by a further stretcher. There are uprights on each end which are simple and chamfered. The front legs are square with chamfered corners and the back legs are simply square. There are double stretchers at the sides. The table has a rustic look about it and very stylish.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
