Circa 1900, exhibition quality Chippendale style mahogany cabinet bookcase. The bookcase has a very stylish and sophisticated horn top cornice with carved foliate on the horns finishing in a lovely curl, held in place by mahogany open fretwork with a raised centre section perhaps for a vase or ornament. Beneath this is a stylish Greek key and an ogee moulding, and two stylish glazed doors with flame mahogany frames. Inside is a polished interior with 3 adjustable shelves with shaped facings. Beneath the flat surface is a tear drop carving which runs around the front and sides, and two fielded panelled doors with rounded corners and a raised panel with quarter matching veneers in the centre. These open to reveal a large mahogany adjustable shelf. At the base is a double moulded edge and an enclosed plinth. The top has an overlap to accommodate skirting boards or dado rails. The whole piece has good colour and patination.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
