Bernard Delfont, Baron Delfont (5 September 1909 – 28 July 1994), born Boris (or Boruch) Winogradsky, was a leading Russian-born British theatrical impresario. He was born in Tokmak, Russian Empire, the second son of Isaac and Olga Winogradsky. His brothers Lew Grade and Leslie Grade also entered showbusiness. His nephew Michael Grade, Leslie''s son, has had a long career in television.Delfont entered theatrical management in 1941, after a career as first a dancer, then an agent. He presented over 200 shows in London and New York, including more than 50 musicals, such as the original productions of Little Me, Stop the World - I Want to Get Off, City Of Angels and Sweet Charity. He also presented summer variety shows in many towns across the country, mainly seaside resorts.As Chief Executive of EMI, Delfont withdrew funding for the film Life of Brian in 1978 at the last moment, due to worries over the religious implications; it was then financed by George Harrison''s company HandMade Films, and a reference is made jokingly to "Bernie" in the last line of the film, during the song "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life".He converted the London Hippodrome into the Talk of the Town restaurant, bringing in entertainers such as Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Eartha Kitt and Judy Garland, and also securing the exclusive rights from Paul Derval to stage the Folies Bergère for the first time outside Paris. He was knighted in 1974 and created a life peer as Baron Delfont, of Stepney in Greater London in 1976. He died from a heart attack at his Angmering home.Lord Delfont was the life president of the Entertainment Artistes'' Benevolent Fund, while his wife served as life governor.The Little Angels Children’s Folk Ballet of Korea was founded in 1962 by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon to convey to the people of the world the peace-loving spirit of the Korean people, and a taste of the beautiful culture and arts produced throughout the nation’s 5,000-year history. The group’s polished repertoire, which includes delightful traditional Korean dances, songs, and theatrical sketches, ranges in effect from the breathtaking to the heartwarming. In September 1965, after just three years of training, the Little Angels performed before President Dwight D. Eisenhower in Gettysburg, Pa.Since then, the troupe has undertaken more than 40 overseas tours, presenting over 6,000 performances in 50 countries. They also have performed several times at the White House, as well as before Queen Elizabeth II in London, and at the UN General Assembly Hall. In 1998 they performed in Pyongyang, North Korea. They’ve had special performances for 40 heads of state, as well as 500 television appearances. The New York Times has called the Little Angels “a phenomenal company,” and Pravda wrote they were on a “global peace mission,” realizing the most sublime human values and beauty in art.
