For offer is an outstanding early example of a Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Vase by the acclaimed Arthur Barlow, one of the artists who is most indelibly associated with the rise to fame of the Doulton Lambeth Wares.

1871-1872The vase is decorated in a brown and blue glaze on a buff ground, with typical Barlow abstract shapes, together with a series of leaves at the base of the neck. It also has a most attractive incised lined neck. It has the impressed early Doulton Lambeth mark on the base, together with the initials JBB. Height: 20 cm

Arthur Barlow was brother to the celebrated Barlow sisters of Hannah. Florence and Lucy and like Hannah studied at the Lambeth School of Art for seven years. Due to his premature death in 1879 at the early age of 34, and having spent only seven years at Doulton’s, his works tend to be relatively scarce whilst somewhat overshadowed by the prolific works of his sisters.
