Circa 1815. A rare unusual and stylish Goncalo Alves, (tropical hardwood also known as Tigerwood) Regency period whatnot. The top is well figured wood with a classic Edinburgh fine beaded fore-edge and a deep frieze, the second shelf with three fine spindles front and back support on four lovely, elegant turned uprights. Beneath this section is a small beading like the top that runs around the entire whatnot, with a full-length drawer beneath with cast brass swan neck handles with a lion head embossed on the facing, the lower shelf with similar beading and simple frieze, resting on four elegant turned legs finishing on a brass cup and castor. The colour and patination are perfect.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
