Circa 1880, stylish French kingwood Vernis Martin cabinet. The cabinet has an arched top with a wonderful open ormolu foliate casting in the centre. The fore edge of the cornice and its apron are also ormolu mounted, as is the fore edge at the top, the beading of the door, the bezel of the glass and the panels on the bottom. The cabinet is serpentine fronted with two doors, opening to reveal the interior with serpentine shelves which are covered in velour. The lock in the centre throws a bolt to the top and bottom. There are four painted panels at the base, depicting ladies in period dress, and all standing on cabriole feet again with ormolu mounts and sabots. The whole piece has excellent colour and patination.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
