Circa 1870, top quality French marquetry inlaid kingwood and ormolu mounted bureau plat. The shaped top has an oval panel in the centre and is profusely inlaid with various flowers, with a kingwood banding and cast fore edge with rope, gadrooning and a stylish pattern. There is a single drawer at the front which is covered in marquetry and has a deep apron beneath. The apron continues around the side with the same marquetry and ormolu beading which is shaped throughout. The top of the legs are surmounted by a large cast winged cherub. The base of the cherub runs down the front of the legs and finishes with very stylish sabots on the feet. There is beading on the front and the side of the legs and a marquetry panel with an ebony background which continues down the fore edges of the front of the legs. The back legs are banded and chamfered. The piece is exhibition quality, super condition, sturdy and clean.
