Circa 1770, good George III mahogany Chippendale style armchair or hand chair. The chair with its classical open fretwork splat back with its shaped top rail. From the uprights come the 2 stylish carved arms with a deep section at the back for comfort and carved roundels at the ends. These are held in place by stylish shaped upward brackets. The colour and patination of these brackets is absolutely superb. There is a large leather upholstered drop in seat. The back legs are square and slightly tapered outwards. The front legs are square with a chamfered inside. The whole chair is unusual with its cross stretchers front to back and double stretchers left to right. The chair is excellent colour, wonderful size and shape. Good Provincial chair.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
