Circa 1880, George III style satinwood bow fronted side cabinet. The top has wonderful silky satinwood, which is crossbanded in mahogany, tulipwood and rosewood. The gables have ebony inlay with canted corners on the top and bottom. At the front are two short drawers with brass circular handles and in the centre is one long drawer with a small escutcheon. This opens to reveal a tooled and gilded leather writing surface surrounded by crossbanded mahogany, which slides back to reveal a fitted interior. The drawer has a mechanism which allows it to come out without falling out, and when the drawer closes the writing surface slips back into position. Beneath the drawers, there is a panel similar to the gables on the left and right, and in the centre an elegant tambour door which has various woods as divisions and a small oval brass handle with foliate casting. This opens to reveal the interior with a single shelf. Beneath this is a crossbanded section which runs around the sides and an apron which is dipped in the front. All standing on four elegant French feet, with string inlay all around them. Very neat size with great colour and condition.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
