Circa 1820, George IV mahogany inlaid sideboard of generous proportions. The brass gallery at the back has cast brass finials in the form of urns and three turned columns. The top is crossbanded and inlaid with a stylish satinwood marquetry highlighted with pen work. There is a ribbed fore edge, and below the top the sideboard has a breakfront central drawer with a painted panel depicting a goddess with bulrushes and animals. On each side of this drawer are two curved drawers with very fine ebonised inlay and roundels. At both ends of the sideboard are double drawers again with ebony inlay and beading. Both are deep enough to take full bottles of wine or champagne. The sideboard stands on six square, tapering, fluted legs which are chamfered on the inside and have pictorial panels at the top of each depicting bulrushes which again are pen work on satinwood. The legs finish on wonderful paw feet. Excellent colour and great patina – a very impressive piece of furniture.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
