This is a large antique hall settle. An Italian, pine and walnut bench or pew with Oriental taste, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850.
- Imposing in proportion and carved detail, ideal for the grand reception hall
- Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
- Pine and walnut stocks show fine grain interest throughout
- Presents rich caramel hues beneath a quality wax polish finish
- Prominent surmount hosts a field panel with galleried rail to either side
- Further accentuated with ball finials, carved beading and foliate patera
- Large decorative panels to the back stand with relief carved dragon heads and scrolled foliage
- Impressive brackets with dragon head forms reinforce the Oriental overtones
- Seat base with inset lid decorated with demi-lune carvings to the rolled edge
- Useful storage area set within the wide seat base
- Corbel brackets frame a pair of carved field panels to centre
- The whole standing upon a quartet of squat bun feet beneath a stout apron
This is a striking antique hall settle, presenting quality Italian craftsmanship with Oriental motif inspiring the decorative flourishes. Wonderful colour and proportion a match for the largest of hallways. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
