Circa 1890. Large finely carved Victorian oak monk’s bench. The folding top with carved edge with exceptional foliate carved panels supported on a scrolled arm on bobbin supports. The large seat with decorative external metal hinges opens to a large storage space. The bench paneled front with Jacobean-style lozenge carvings and the side with twin panels all on styled feet. Large size and exceptional quality carving and lovely patina.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh.
