Circa 1880, unusual late Victorian birds eye maple cabinet on stand. The top has a castellated effect cornice in the form of flowers, with open fretwork between each of the uprights. Beneath this is a simple beading and a birds eye maple apron, which continues around the sides. At the front are two elongated doors which are pagoda shaped, surmounted by a lozenge shaped section of birds eye maple in the centre. The doors open to reveal a velvet lined interior, fitted out for a collection of ornaments or silver. The inside could be adjusted to suit future requirements. There are 3 silver plated hinges on each side. Beneath the top section is an ogee moulding and beaded fore edge over a single fitted drawer with a similar form as the doors above. The back legs are square, tapering and reeded finishing on splayed block feet. The front legs are cabriole with massive carved roundels on each side, reeding and fluting on the front and finishing on stylish animalistic feet. Good colour and condition.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
