This is a fabulous combination teapot & cup designed by Matteo Thun for Arzberg. Circa 1988, it is a wonderful piece. The pot sits within the cup and when separated, reveals a wide shallow cup on small ball feet. Large loop handles complement the design. A 1980s gem.
About Matteo Thun
Matteo Thun was born in Bolzano, Italy, in 1952, studied at the Salzburg Academy obtaining a degree in architecture in Florence in 1975. He moved to Milan in 1978, where he met and started working with Ettore Sottsass. In 1981 with Ettore Sottsass, he co-founded the Memphis group. The Memphis group comprised Italian designers and architects who created a series of highly influential products in the 1980's. The group disagreed with the conformist approach of design at the time and challenged the idea that products had to follow conventional shapes, colours, textures and patterns. In 1987 Matteo Thun left the Memphis group to set up his own practice and in 1988, Sottsass dismantled the group but its influence has continued in the world of design.
