Antique Midcentury painting still life of summer flowers by Pauline Boumphrey

By the American artist Pauline Bomphrey

This midcentury impressionistic oil painting captures a vibrant still life of flowers, showcasing the elegance and charm of purple Delphiniums, white Carnations, and purple Chrysanthemums. The artist's brushstrokes are bold and expressive, imbuing the scene with a dynamic energy and a sense of movement. The Delphiniums rise tall and regal, their purple hues creating a striking contrast against the softer, rounded forms of the Carnations and the intricate, layered petals of the Chrysanthemums. The rich colours and textured layers reflect the light in a way that brings the bouquet to life, evoking the freshness of a garden in full bloom. The background is a blur of soft tones, allowing the flowers to stand out as the composition's focal point. This painting is a beautiful testament to the artist's skill in capturing the fleeting beauty of nature with an impressionistic touch.

    Biography
Pauline Boumphrey (née Pauline Firth, later Pauline Firth Haworth; 11 October 1886 – 25 January 1959) was an American sculptor who spent the majority of her career working in Britain.
Boumphrey was born in Boston Massachusetts but was educated in Britain, attending Roedean School on the English south coast.[2] She settled in London and later lived at Sandiway in Cheshire.[3]

Boumphrey specialised in statuettes and small group compositions, often in bronze, and often of equine subjects. In 1925 she was awarded an honourable mention for a piece she showed at the Salon des Artistes Francais in Paris. Boumphrey also exhibited works at the Royal Academy in London, at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and in Glasgow and Edinburgh. She was a regular exhibitor with the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts and was elected an associate member of that Academy in 1925. Among the works she exhibited in Manchester was a 1942 design for a war memorial to the civilian victims of the Blitz. Boumphrey died in New York in 1959. so
