Gilt-Framed Original Oil Painting on Board 'Distant Spire' by John Lines

A lovely little rural landscape by the consummate master John Lines, bearing no indication of its date but probably from the latter part of the 20thC and owing something of a nod to Edward Seago and the Norfolk School.

John Lines was born in 1938 in Rugby, Warwickshire, where he lives to this day. He studied art at Rugby Polytechnic from 1959 and then at York School of Art between 1961 & 1962. John has been exhibiting his work with great commercial success since leaving art school although, initially, he divided his time between a career in industry and his painting.

He is a prolific artist, mainly in oil and, to a lesser extent, in watercolour; he is known for his British townscape & landscape subjects, capturing the humour, nostalgia, romance and beauty of the British countryside and urban life.

He has exhibited widely and has works in public & private collections throughout the world. He has lectured and led workshops in Australia and the USA. He is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and also of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.
