Circa 1840. A quality pair of Dutch floral marquetry chairs. The shaped cresting rail smothered marquetry, the curved panel back depicting a Roman solider in a chariot, the two uprights with shaped sections to the top and further marquetry on the facing. With two panels forming the start of the arms, the terminals in the form of mythical sea dolphins supported on pierced and shaped uprights, the large solid seat with marquetry panels, and the serpentine front with a shaped inlaid frieze. The back legs and sides all covered in marquetry, back legs are slightly out swept, front legs are carved cabriole legs profusely carved on the knee finishing with a primitive animal foot. Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
