Circa 1860. An unusual stylish quality matched pair of French walnut gilded and painted Prie-Dieu chairs. (Furniture for use during prayer, consisting of a kneeling surface and a narrow upright front with a rest for the elbows) The curved upholstered top finished in stylish needle point, with a wonderful Rococo style pierced back with highlights gilded, and a well painted heraldic coat of arms to the center. The seat in needle point which is monogramed, the wonderful shaped seat rail in the Rococo style, highlighted with gilding, resting on four elegant cabriole legs.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
