Impressive portrait of a Gentleman by the artist James Northcote (1746-1831), oil on canvas. Canvas size 77x64 cm. Provenance from the label on reverse: "Catalogue Nr.66 Collection Francis Kimbel Paris, J.Northcote peintre anglais, portrait de Dr.J.Prado" (please see photo). Francis Kimbel was a collector and the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Paris around 1900. James Northcote was pupil of Sir Joshua Reynolds and was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 1787. The painting is in very good condition apart from a minor chip on the frame as shown on the caption and some craquelure. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you you have any questions.
