Private seller early 19th century coach/automobile wooden passenger seat/foot warmer with a brass tank insert. This square box shaped warmer is in two halves and the top half is covered by a patterned fabric and is 29cm wide by 24cm depth by 9cm.

Attached to the front of the lower half is a small brass carrying handle and hook latch fitted to keep the two halves together. On the base of the warmer there are 4 x 2cm by 2cm round stubby legs which it sits on.

When the top half of the warmer is opened it discloses a square brass tank, 21cm wide by 18cm depth by 4cm high fitted into the lower part of the warmer. This tank would be taken out and filled with hot water and replaced back into the box, the passenger would then whilst journeying would have either a warm seat or feet for the journey ahead.

The wear to the fabric covering on the top of the warmer clearly shows it’s had considerable use over the years, proving that it was essential in those early days of coach/ automobile travel for your passenger to be comfortable whilst travelling.

This coach/automobile passenger warmer is in very good condition for its age and for the obvious usage it’s had and would make an excellent addition to any collection of early coach/automobile travel memorabilia.

My pasion is for antiques collectbles. I now are only operating as an Internet shop on www.antiques.co.uk, as these huge overheads with a bricks and mortar premises are no longer viable. We are passing on these savings to our customers making the prices more reasonable.
