We believe this was made by D. Edwards of 21 King Street, Bloomsbury Square, London, famous makers of Writing & Dressing cases to the Royal Family and inventor of the patent military traveling cases. The detailed work on this writing box such as, the inlaid brass, inset decorative handles, the timbers used of the highest quality and its mechanism for the secret compartment is work we recognise and beleive to be from Edwards workshop.
Edwards were purchased by Asprey in 1859 and had two royal warrants from King George IV and Queen Victoria, they were known makers of some of the best writing, vanity and dressing boxes to be sold
