Offering a rare Parian ware jug from Herbert Minton's factory in Stoke on Trent produced around 1847. Decorated all over with raised figures, men, women and children working in a hop garden. The original cover is missing. This present piece is a scaled down version of the original design by Henry J. Townsend for his Summerly's Art Manufacturer, originally commissioned by Henry Cole. The base bears the raised design registration mark for 14th May 1847. A further raised cartouche bears the model number, 821, with the initial M beneath. See Kathy Hughes 'A Collectors Guide to Nineteenth Century Jugs. p.61 fig.75. The jug is in excellent, original, sound condition with no signs of wear.
