rare pair of framed oil paintings on glass of kittens by bessie bamber (1870-1910)

A rare pair of lovely and quality oil paintings on milk glass of kittens by Bessie Bamber and painted circa 1907. One is signed in monogram ‘BB’ and the other signed in full on the reverse of the milk glass.

Bessie Bamber was British from Birkenhead and specialised in the highest quality painting of cats and kittens. She normally painted on milk glass and wood panel.Bamber’s style is detailed and her pictures are always carefully wrought. She was a clever creator of composition, her kittens are never mere portraits, but usually illustrated playing and surrounded by objects such as cotton reels, baskets, etc.Bessie Bamber was active around the turn of the century and her pictures have always attracted a wide following and are sought after by collectors today.A pair of Bessie’s kittens in oils on milk glass both 32cm x 19cm sold at Bonhams in 2005 for £2,467.This offered pair of paintings are in gold frames and both 18cm x 13cm without the frame and 25.5cm x 20.5cm framed.Unit12 Antiques (within the Room 101 Antique Emporium, Birkenhead) ships worldwide with secure packing at reasonable rates.
