An extremely rare King Carol II period, circa 1930, Frontier Border Guard ceremonial helmet belonging to the 1st Frontier Guard (Graniceri) Regiment. This is a leather helmet of pickelhaube style, the main body is green and the front and rear peaks/visors are black and trimmed with white metal. The helmet is topped with an aluminium crest which is fronted by a spread-winged eagle in silver coloured metal. It has a set of white metal chin scales attached to ear bosses backed with metal, coloured discs. The helmet plate, in silver coloured metal, depicts the cipher of King Carol II. The interior has a leather headband and silk liner that parts in the middle. There is some minor damage to the silk liner and a small part of the leather edge trim but this does not affect the overall appearance. The chin scales have become adhered to the leather skull because of heat exposure over the years. Overall, a superb item of headdress that would grace any collection.
