Circa 1750, late George II mahogany bureau, with wonderful rich solid mahogany top and large open brass escutcheon. It opens to reveal a simple but stylish interior consisting of double banks of drawers, and open sections with stylised pelmets. The centre door is inlaid with chequered inlay and opens to reveal further drawers. There is a leathered writing surface. Below the bureau consists of 4 graduating drawers with wonderful cast brass original handles. The drawers have a lovely moulded edge. Very simple frieze on the bottom and the bureau stands on very stylish ogee bracket feet. This bureau is very similar to works by Giles Grendey of London. Excellent condition, wonderful colour. Good example of a writing bureau.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
