sold - a good quiality howard & sons style victorian armchair c 1880

This elegant and good quality armchair is of a high quality and dates from around the late 1800s. It has a buttoned scrolled back and slightly set back scrolled arms. It has been stuffed throughout with horse hair and is fully sprung. There are attractive turned legs to the front and splayed legs to the back. All original, solid brass castors are retained and the show wood is in excellent condition.

It is a very comfortable chair with a deep seat. It has been upholstered in a mushroom colour velvet type fabric with rope piping to finish. The fabric is still in very good condition with no wear or marks. Although of course if it was reupholstered in a new fabric it really would bring this stunning chair to life!The chair does have a slight wobble to one of the arms, but the rest of it is solid. The slight wobble could easily be fixed when stripped if reupholstering. The chair frame and legs, including castors are all solid. Overall the chair is a good quality heavy chair with original stuffing and has excellent proportions - a fine armchair for any room.We would be happy to reupholster this chair for you, our work is carried out to a high standard and all work is done traditionally.
