salvador dali daligramme briefcase for lancel, circa 1970

Max was the Director of Wildenstien gallery London.This is a wonderful example from the original Daligramme collection produced in the 1970s by Lancel. In the late 1960s, Dali devised a secret love code for his muse, who later on became his wife, Gala, which he would later dub as the Daligramme. Lancel took this love alphabet and created Le Dalí, a bag which was dedicated to Dalí's love story. This excellently executed briefcase is as equally functional as it is extraordinarily beautiful. Wrapped in a high quality dark brown leather this luggage piece features Dali's monogrammed love code printed across the surface comprising of stylized versions of the letters - G for Gradiva-Gala, D for Dali and S for Salvador, plus Dali's signature. The briefcase is fitted with contrast brass hardware on the corners, hinges, and latches with a brown leather handle attached to brass hinges on a stitched leather backplate. The suitcase is lined inside and has two. The original "Design by Salvador Dali" manufacturers label made from leather can also be found on the inside. It would also be an interesting storage or display choice in a corporate, retail or hospitality location such as a boutique hotel lobby, cocktail bar, members club, workspace studio, executive office or in a luxe clothing emporium. Measurements: 33 cms H x 42 cms W x 7cms D Fair to good vintage condition. Use commensurate with age are evident. Some signs of scuffs and minor scratches on the leather. Interior shows signs of use.
