Circa 1820, Scottish carved oak chaise longue, probably by William Trotter of Edinburgh. The back rail is carved on both the front and back, with a small ribbed end which is turned with a carved bunch of grapes at one end and finishing on the other end with a similar carving which forms into a curved folded acanthus leave. The sofa itself has two large circular ends at the front with foliate carving, and flower heads in the centre. Below this is a simple bracket and a deep carved apron with a rectangular carved flower heads at each end. The sofa stands on 4 fantastic carved, fluted and tapering legs finishing on similar cast brass fluted castors. This is a wonderful example of a chaise longue, freestanding with fabric panels on the front, sides and end. The condition is superb.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
