A solid sterling silver hip flask inscribed Carlow Polo Tournament sept 1899 G. S. Higginson R.D.F
Higginson was then Captain in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and was soon to go Afrika to the Zulu wars. He was captured in the first world war in 1914 and spent the entire war in a german prison camp, after the war he was made Leiutenant Colonel in charge of the second Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers ( The Old Toughs) he handed over the Regimental flag to the King at the regiments disbanding in 1922

weight 170gm 5.47 ozt it has an unusual closing mechanism by just clicking shut to seal in the whiskey etc, this has been used and has a few minor scratches still a fine rare desirable Irish item with fine military conections.
