For sale, this fine Smiths Deluxe 17 jewel A454 Antarctic version dating 1959. The A454 formed part of the Everest range but this version was used on the 1955 Antarctic expedition. Fine original signed bright dial looking only slightly yellow under its original crystal. Original deep-blued handset with its correct characteristic red centre sweep hand. The hand set still retains most of their original luminous paint. The screw-down waterproof case is in exceptionally fine original condition showing little wear with only very slight noticeable loss of case plate. Fully signed gilt 27.C.S movement in full working order keeping excellent time. Original winding crown showing some loss of original plate. Gifted inscription to case back by the then British Gas Board. Fitted on a new period pig skin 16mm leather strap. A rare example in excellent condition.
