superb early georg jensen silver tea set leaf and berry pattern 181 1924

This tea set is a stunning beautiful example of the work of the studios of Georg Jensen and dates from the 1920s. It is in the leaf and berry pattern No 181 with an overall subtle planished finish which reflects and deflects the light beautifully. It is a perfect size for tea for two.

The lid of the teapot pushes on ie it is not a hinged lid and fits snugly. In itself it is a masterpiece of design with leaves encircling the lid surrounding berries and the finial rises from the centre into a bud of leaves all surmounted by emerging berries. The berry motif is reflected on the handle and on the sugar basin and cream jug. Leaves rise from the foot of each piece to support the main body of the sugar basin creamer and tea pot.Each piece sits on a small octagonal foot. Around this small foot on the teapot and almost hidden and certainly unobtrusive are the word "Presented to Mr Henry Maltby on the occasion of his 50th birthday 17th April 1929 by partners in the SWE- DAN corporation" . As with all hand raised items the tea set is made of a good heavy gauge silver and weighs a total of 647 grams which is approximately 20.8 Troy ounces. The tea pot measures approximately 14 cms - 5.5 inches high and is about 21.5 cms - 8.5 inches across handle to spout.All pieces carry excellent sharp hallmarks both London import marks and Danish hallmarks for sterling 925 silver. The pieces were imported by George Stockwell into the UK and hallmarked during the 1924/25 hallmarking year.Condition: In excellent condition with good hallmarks. The set appears to have loved and cared for all its life and appears to have seen very little use. An absolutely stunning set. Please see photographs.
