A superb Victorian English travelling vanity case in beautiful coromandel wood having protective polished brass edging and 2 lines of brass stinging with blank chased brass cartouche. The box opens to reveal wonderful chased brass hinges, fittings and locks. The lid contains the removable mirror which has a gold tooled leather back and can stand separately or rest on gilded brass fittings within the lid. The contents include 12 solid silver lidded and cut glass bottles with a blue velvet pin cushion. All silver fittings marked “W.N.” for William Neal of London (1836 to 1879) and assayed date letter for 1875 "U” with Queen Victoria head and leopard head. The tray lifts out to a storage area and a sprung button at the back of the box releases the hidden drawer which retains the original blue velvet lining for jewellery.
