This outstanding antique ring from 1830, the year of William IV's rise to the crown, features black enamel detailing with gold lettering surrounding a hair panel set behind a piece of clear crystal. The ring was created to help someone honour the memory of a loved one who had passed away.
The trifurcated shoulders feature black enamel and gold detailing, which leads into a lined band with two floral decals towards the back of the band. Around the ring's hair-work panel reads 'In Memory Of'.
An inscription to the back of the ring's head reads 'Robert Mayhew obt 27 Ap, 1831 at 36 Ys'.
The Assay Office of London fully hallmarked this pre-Victorian ring for 18ct gold in 1831. The enamel and goldwork is in fabulous condition for the ring's age. The panel has become partially opaque with time. Overall, the ring is in very fine condition at nearly 200 years old.
