This mourning ring features a navette-shaped head with a cross design made up of nine rose-cut diamonds, accompanied by black enamel surrounding it, for a total of 0.17ct of diamonds. The head is met with plain shoulders with a track to each edge leading to a plain band.
Inside the ring’s back, there is a gap which most likely used to hold a remembrance, such as hair and sealed with glass to act as a mourning piece. The glass is no longer present, though there are some small remnants remaining.
This ring is fully hallmarked by the Assay Office of Birmingham for 18ct gold in 1870. There is slight wear to the enamel and marks where it has been resized previously, but it is in fully wearable condition, and all stones remain well held, with usual marks commensurate with age.
