This antique Victorian mourning ring features five dreamy pearls in a wide ornate band. However, what makes this mourning ring truly unique is the inclusion of plaited hair sections.
In Victorian times, it was common for people to keep a lock of hair from a loved one as a memento after they passed away. The hair would be woven into intricate patterns and incorporated into jewellery to keep the memory of the deceased close. In this ring, the plaited hair sections are carefully woven into the gold band, adding a personal touch and a sense of intimacy to the piece.
Inside the band there is an engraving which reads 'In memory of Carry, 8th July 1877'. This ring is fully hallmarked by the Assay Office of Birmingham for 15ct gold in 1881. There is slight nacre wear to the pearls, and it appears that two are replacements, but all stones remain well held, and the plaited hair remains intact.
Due to this band's unique design, it is excluded from our Complimentary Resizing service.
