Circa 1870, unusual Victorian pollard oak davenport. The top has a mother of pearl inlay on the flat section – stating ‘Oak, The Growth of Woodbrook‘. The slope has an unusual green leather writing surface which is tooled, gilded and has a nice pattern on it. This is hinged and opens to reveal a mahogany interior with 3 various drawers and 1 dummy drawer. Each of the drawers has ebonised knob handles. On the dummy drawer, one of the handles pulls out to release a pen slide on the side. The front section has 2 large turned barley sugar columns with stylish capitals at the top and rounded bases. On each side are arched panels, the right hand side one is a door and opens to reveal a section of 4 slides all made in mahogany. The back of the davenport has matching pollard oak veneers and beneath this is a rectangular apron which runs all around. The whole piece finishes on 4 squat feet with porcelain and brass castors beneath. Unusual piece of Victorian furniture, very stylish and good quality.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
