Circa 1815. A rare stylish and unusual ebonized day bed probably by ‘William Trotter of Edinburgh’. The stained frame with reeding on the facings, with 3 gilded brass flower heads, and a pierced motif in the frieze, the ribbing continues on the back, making the sofa free-standing. The raised end with scrolling foliate carving on the front, similar stylish carving occurs at the lower end, too. All resting on four saber legs, which finish with cast brass facings on the top and sides of acorns and leaves with original brass castors beneath. The sofa is in its original hessian undergarment with horse hair visibly showing through. For similar examples see the library at Paxton house in Berwickshire.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
