c.1939 Cortebert WW2 ATP Official Ordnance Gents Military Watch

The Ministry Of Defence ordered 133,000 of these watches from around 16 Swiss Manufacturers in 1939, these watches affectionately known as Tommy Watches predated the famous Dirty Dozen watches by a number of years and were used in the heaviest fighting during WW2. Attrition rates of watches lost or destroyed in the war was fairly high and at the end the MOD tried to destroy the rest. Some were recased and sold to `Bravingtons a West End Jewellers. The rest remain in circulation.The watch is in very good condition for its age, the Army Trade Pattern (ATP) Pheon I’d clearly engraved. Inside the case is a 15 Jewel Cal 665 movement signed Cortebert
