      Moonlight

      sia antion, riga, latvia

1920th century. Canvas, oil. 62x81 cm. Aleksandrs Keens (orig. A.Kuhn) is a painter of Belarusian origin who worked mainly in Riga, from the turn of the 19th20th centuries until the First World War. Keens is one of those artists who were once well-known in society, but as a result of world wars and changes of power, have not been studied in Latvian art history, whose works are sometimes found in private collections. Keen mostly painted landscapes corresponding to the Romantic era, which, framed in luxurious gilded frames, beautified the wealthy middle-class residences of his time. A. Kins. Alessandro Grevenbroeck (born in the 17th century died in Padua) Dutch seascape at dusk, around 1700 Canvas 95 cm by 64 cm This beautiful seascape is richly composed of numerous scenes. It is animated by a host of characters and ships of the Dutch fleet in the middle of islets topped with towers and ancient ruins that the painter particularly liked, Alessandro Grevenbroeck (born in the 17th century died in Padua) Born towards the end of the 17th century, probably in Milan, Alessandro had his first artistic training at the school of Giovanni Grevenbroeck, most likely his father, called il Solfarolo (Netherlands, around 1650 - Milan, 1699). The artistic collaboration between Alessandro and his father Giovanni was evidenced by the signature of both on a painting depicting Porto di mare at sunset. From 1717 to 1720, Alexander received missions from the Russian ambassador Beklemišev on behalf of Peter I the Great. Among the most important historical works created by the artist and sent to Russia are the Battle of Poltava, which was destroyed in the fire at the Hermitage Pavilion in Peterhof (1808), and the Naval Battle of Gangut (Peterhof Museum, Monplaisir Palace, inv. no. 455). The interest in the painter on the part of the Russian government led to an official invitation for Alexander to travel to Russia to enter the service of His Imperial Majesty to paint land-based naval battles and harbor views; despite the initiation of contacts and the drafting of a real preliminary contract with the artist, archival data confirm that the trip and his stay never took place. On the contrary, many canvases dedicated with a mention Venice or Padua and a date of execution (1717 and 1748), show that he remained in the vicinity of the Serenissima. The fame linked to the landscape architect is also confirmed by the data relating to the rent paid by the latter in Venice in 1745 (Provveditori alle Pompe), which shows that Alessandro had a decent level of income, which leads us to believe that the Artist enjoyed real success during his lifetime. • 17th Century Venetian School. The Death of Lucretia in Front of Her Family

17th Century Venetian School. The Death of Lucretia in Front of Her Family

      sia antion, riga, latvia

17th Century Venetian School, The Death of Lucretia in Front of Her Family Canvas 52 cm by 39 cm Frame 60 cm by 47 cm This beautiful painting seems to be the representation of Lucretia surrounded in particular by her husband and her father, just before committing her act. We can compare this painting to the hand of Carle Johannes Loth, (1632, 1698) painter of Bavarian origin who lived and worked for many years in Venice The Suicide of Lucretia After being raped by Prince Sextus Tarquinius, one of the sons of King Tarquin the Superb, Lucrera asks her husband and her father to come to her Spurius Lucretius Tricipitinus, father of Lucretia, accompanied by Publius Valerius, and Junius Brutus, her husband arrived together. They found Lucretia sitting in her room, overcome with grief. She began to weep when her family arrived. Her husband asked her if she was ill. “Yes,” she replied, “how can a woman who has lost her honor be well? A man (…) has defiled your bed; violence has been done to me, but my heart has remained pure: my death will furnish proof of this. Take my hand and swear to punish my dishonor. Sextus Tarquinius has done violence to me; he came last night with a weapon, not as a guest but as an enemy, and he left after taking a pleasure from which I am dying and from which he will die too if you are men.” They all promised, one after the other. They sought to assuage her torment, asserting that the culprit was not the victim but the author of the attack; it was the intention and not the act that constituted the fault. “Set yourselves the price he must pay; As for me, although innocent, I do not consider myself free from death. Never will a woman allow herself to survive her dishonor by the example of Lucretia. She plunged a knife she kept hidden under her garment into her heart and fell under the blow, dying. Her husband and her father gave a loud cry. Width: 60cm, Height: 47cm, Depth: 3cm, Weight: 1kg, Condition: Exc., Usual restorations, Material: Canvas, oil, ID: 12281

Jean Baptiste Blain de Fontenay (1653; 1715) Attributed. Bouquet of Flowers in a Vase Circa 1700

      sia antion, riga, latvia

Jean Baptiste Blain de Fontenay (1653; 1715) attributed. Bouquet of Flowers in a Vase Circa 1700. Relined canvas measuring 69 cm by 57 cm. Frame measuring 91 cm by 69 cm. This superb painting shows a bouquet of flowers in a vase on an inverted capital serving as an entablature. At the foot, two fruits, in the background a red velvet curtain. Jean Baptiste Blain de Fontenay (1653; 1715). Born in Caen in 1653 to Louis Blin, painter, and Jeanne Degron, he joined the studio of Jean Baptiste Monnoyer, of whom he was most certainly the best student. In order to apply to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture, he was forced to renounce his faith in 1685. He was admitted on November 16, 1687, with his still life Vase of Flowers and Bust of Louis XIV (a painting now in the Louvre). The same year, he married Monnoyer&39;s daughter, Marie Monnoyer. The couple had four children, including Jean Baptiste II in 1688 and Jacques in 1698, who also became painters. Among his most notable works, he decorated the châteaux of Fontainebleau, Versailles, Compiègne, and especially Marly. Housed at the Louvre and given a pension by Louis XIV, he also produced several cartoons for the Gobelins factory. Like his master, he devoted himself especially to painting fruits and flowers, emphasizing the sumptuousness and theatricality of his compositions, which were embellished with curtains, goldsmith pieces, and other architectural elements.
