An oval-shaped porcelain medallion decorated with a polychrome painting depicting a half-length portrait of the great Russian commander Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov (1730-1800). The Generalissimo is depicted in the uniform of the Preobrazhensky Regiment, with orders and awards testifying to his outstanding military merits. The composition is based on the portrait by Nicolas-Sebastien Frost (1790-1856), kept in the State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg. The medallion demonstrates a high degree of skill in miniature painting on porcelain, typical of the Russian and European traditions. Special elaboration of details, soft chiaroscuro modeling of the face, carefully drawn elements of the military uniform and awards emphasize the exceptional quality of execution.
